WHAT IS HYDROSEEDING?
Hydroseeding is a planting process that uses a slurry of seed and mulch. Virtually any grass or erosion control seed that can be planted by standard broadcast methods can be hydro seeded. This includes any sun or shade native grasses, wildflowers, roadside mixes and erosion control mixes. The nutrient rich slurry we use helps promote faster germination and provides moisture to enable the seed to germinate quickly and unlike straw or hay contains no weed seed.
ADVANTAGES OF HYDROSEEDING
- Quicker Germination
- Better Moisture Retention
- Better Seed to Soil Contact
- Hydro seeding mulch contains no weed seed
- Excellent for Erosion control on Slopes
- No straw or netting used
- Hold soil in place better than dry seeding
HYDRO SEEDING VS SOD
Sod provides instant gratification but there are advantages to hydro seeding over sod, starting with costs. Hydroseeding costs pennies on the dollar compared to sod and can be done more quickly.
You can have a premium quality lawn in a matter of weeks. Moreover, you can have a superior quality lawn for less. Hydro seeding allows for specific turf seed selection custom to the microclimate.
With hydroseeding, you don’t have to worry about rejection, which can occur with sod. When sod is placed on incompatible soil it can fail to thrive, requiring replacement.
With a hydroseeded lawn, unlike sod which has a shallow root system, hydro seeded turf roots grow deeper from the onset and remain undisturbed.
IDEAL FOR EROSION CONTROL
With many new hydro seeding materials on the market, it is now possible to save time and money by intensive erosion control via hydro seeding techniques.
Products such as BFM (Bonded Fiber Matrix) and FGM (Flexible Growth Media) will provide superior and fast erosion control. Unlike erosion control blankets these erosion control products bond directly to the soil surface and both hold better and are less likely to suffer from rejection or failure to thrive situations.
